How did you find out about Tommy?

I first heard Tommy on a morning show in the USA. Archives here(www.bobandtom.com) He was on around 5/20/08 and I have been

a huge fan since, buying CDs, guitar tab, even picks! I am happy to

say I get to see him today(7/24/09) in Jacksonville, Oregon. I share

a birthday with Tommy (May 31) and the concert tickets were my

present to myself. I will report on tonights gig if I can. Any T.E. fans

in Oregon look me up.

two years ago, a friend of mine saw tommy in vienna and brought me a dvd ( live at sheldon theatre). but i had no time to watch any single second for a few month. two weeks before christmas 2007 was the big moment. tommy came on stage, started with "lutrell". with my mouth wide open i was staring at the screen and forgot everything around me until i heard my wife saying, BREATHING! one week later i started practicing "day tripper". :-) two month later i met T.E. in munic, after his show. so much luck in this short time :-) and it changed my life as a musician completely. i stoped playing my electric. first time of my life i started practicing! and i enjoy playing this music note for note.

I saw Tommy on PBS, went to a concert last month in Sierra City, fell in love with his music... met Tommy and, admittedly, fell a little bit in love with him also. He's very nice and generous with his time.

I was watching Nashville Now.  They were talking to some Australia fellow a bit then he played. OH...  MY...  GOD...  I was blown away.  Spent a long trying to find information about Tommy. I think it was about the time Drivetime came out.  Then my Wife and I

Traveled to Chicago to see Tommy at Schubas.  My life had been changed.

A friend of mine in Florida who is a guitar player and who played in an old rock and roll band but he likes to learn Chet Atkins tunes sent me the CD The Day Finger Pickers Took Over The World. I couldn't get over how good Tommy was and then I went to his web sites and watched and listened to him such as when he was on Woodsongs Radio Hour on Public Radio two times. I watched him in amazement. I saw him on the Opy with Brad Paisley and on Les Paul's 90th birthday show. I watched many videos of him on youtube and every time I see him, I am more and more amazed! I can't get enough of his playing and wish I could play a quarter as well as does Tommy.

I had some friends, Tim and Naomi here in Austin who mentioned that they were thinking of going to see this guitar player.  I said I'd meet them down at the club.
This was at the Cactus Cafe on the University of Texas campus.  I've seen many guitarists like John Renbourn, Pierre Bensusan, Bob Brozman, Roy Bookbinder, Chris Smither etc.....
At the Cactus you buy tickets at the door b4 the show and I have almost always been first in line (arriving around 5pm for the 8pm door).  You usually hear the artist doing their sound check through the door.  The club is tiny.  I'm standing with another guy outside and the door opens and Tommy walks out and sticks out his hand saying "Hey I’m Tommy".  Tommy recognizes the guy next to me asking how his son is and the guy sez his son is at home studying for a final and Tommy asks him if he can call home on his cell phone so he can say hi.
Up to this point I had never heard of Tommy or any of his music but he seems like a nice guy.  When they open the door I go in and get my customary table at the front of the stage (the prize for waiting for three hours).
Now if there are any ladies here on TEF please excuse this part of the story.
I go out to use the bathroom b4 the show and I'm standing at the urinal and Tommy comes through the door and uses the one next to me and sez to me
"I hear this is where the big boys hang out".
I went back in and sat at the table by my self as Tim and Naomi never showed up.  They missed one hell of a show.  My jaw was dirty from hanging open on the floor.
Believe you me Tommy was beyond unbelievable.  He was like a character out of a movie.  He was too good to be real.
My hands hurt from clapping and my face from smiling.
Near the end of the night he started to play Waltzing Matlilda while telling a story and I said out loud "beats Tie Me Kangaroo Down" and looks at me and without missing a beat as he detunes his guitar and sez "I'm going to play this but you've got to sing along with me.  So we sang one chorus and then the last verse
"So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde
And that's it hanging on the shed"
We shared a good laugh on that one.
Needless to say Mr. T and I have been the best of friends since that night.

I first saw this guy on YouTube playin' "Guitar Boogie" and thought "Yeah right! Whatever! It's been done before." and by the end of the video I was just blown away. So I checked out the rest of his stuff like "Day Tripper/Lady Madonna" "Classical Gas" "Angelina" etc. and just love to this day. It's been over a year now since then and I always consider him as my main influence for fingerstyle guitar. I recently went to see him in Toronto and I must say that that was unlike anything I've ever seen.

Hi, all! About two years ago, I was reading a webpage of a computer programmer (I can't remember who was the guy) who happened to be also a guitar player, and it listed the names of some great guitar players. Tommy was there, so I looked up on YouTube, watched "Angelina" and my mind blowed up! As it happens, my life changed, since then I've been watching all Tommy's Youtube videos I can, trying to work out the songs... He is not just a great guitarist, he is a wonderful person. Now, he is coming to Brazil next week, and I'm going to travel more than 3000km hoping I can meet him!! o/ Nice to meet you all Tommy fans! Elias P.S.: btw, first post in the forum! :D
