Hi guys, Nice to see that there's a lot uf us - admirers of Tommy's talent - are playing our own stuff

I'm a singer songwriter also playing guitar. I play Furch 25th anniversary and an old Art&Lutherie as a backup. The latter is worn-out but sounds good. The neck is slightly too thick for my hand though. I have always played the 13-set for full sound, but now moved to 10th because of starting hand injury ;(

I'm now doing exercises every morning and during the day to cure this. Tendon and nerve gliding... doesn't reallly sound appealing.. huh  The technique is an own blend of bass and guitar, in other words - a bastard

I use thumb and 1st for bass lines - slap technique learned from Victor Wooten's online lessons. Thanks to the great bass player! The rest (2,3,4th) are for chords and melody - but each finger dedicated for just one string, hitting it in both directions, both up AND down.. I play mostly solo and duos with percussion/cajon. But I also have an electric setup! Kasuga ES-335 ´72 (Gibson copy) and Washburn J6, both customized with my own designed pickups (the old cases reused), dividing the strings in 2 sets - 6,5th goes to the bass amp (PJB Suitcase) and 4-1th goes to guitar amp (Fender Jazz King). This setup allows me to play with a drummer

I'm 42. Just got fired from my dayjob as project manager.. and considering a career shift.. which got me into rehearsing with a teenager's sturdiness and lots of positive energy  Tommy is my daily inspiration here. Thanks Mr.Emmanuel!!! Cheers from Denmark!

Hi, I have a couple of very nice guitars but my main instrument is a Mcilroy A35C build by Dermot Mcilroy, who worked long years for Lowden. This guitar sound like an orchestra. It has the best neck I ever had it my hands. I am very happy being a endorser of Mcilroy. I use it mostly for open tunefish like Dadgad, EADEAE etc. My second guitar is an Avalon A200, as well Irish, and I use it for standard tunefish and when playing TE songs. The neck is a bit thinner compared to the Mcilroy and faster to play. Currently I work on my own compositions and record my first acoustic CD, When ever I have time I learn some tunes of TE, Franco Morone or Pete Huttlinger (last TE songs I learned were "Somewhere over the rainbow", "Those who wait", "Lewis & Clark", "Since we met" and "Daytripper". I also started Mombasa, but stuck somewhere in the middle and got lost.). If you like you can check my music at my homepage. Best to you!

I have a Takamine ED50 and are presently working on "Since we met". I have some classical backround (many years ago), so it's not easy to get hold of the smooth way of playing Tommy's melodies.

i only use a baton rouge ZF jumbo. this guitar has an incredible sound! i like it really to play and i play for many hours each day. i've learned some tunes of T.E. but at the moment i'm on a tune of leo brouwer, called berceuse (cancion de cuna), because last week i become a grandfather :-))

@redgroove, maybe you will open a new thread upon your experiences with hand injury and things like that?

oh i've forgotten the te tunes: day tripper, taste of honey, lady madonna (but without the end - he called a funky little thing!), borsalino, windy and warm, the finger lakes and ruby's eyes

At present, I own a Gibson Signature Series electric guitar and a 45 or so year old Yamaha acoustic and I play the electric through a small practice amp.

I would love to learn some Tommy Emmanuel and Doyle Dykes tunes but I have not gotten into those.  I mostly play old Chet Atkins songs such as his version of Windy and Warm and Poor People of Paris.  I play many of the old Chet songs but in much simpler versions than Chet.

As for other guitars, I would love to own a Maton and a Taylor like Doyle Dykes plays but they cost too much money for someone like me who is retired and on a fixed income

Since I finished my first guitar in October, it's been my main tool, replacing my Taylor GC7 which I currently have strung to Nashville hi-strung tuning (adds a lot of interest when things seem stuck in a rut). My self-made guitar is a concert size cutaway that exceeds all expectations I had while building it... The Taylor replaced a Taylor 814c that I felt was to large for my aging shoulder to play comfortably in the bedroom (Jens!), and it joins a resident Takamine Sante Fe wide neck that preceeded the Taylor 814c. It has earned it's keep. I play numerous TE tunes passably well (he's my favorite!) and numerous other tunes, originals, classical, Keaggy, Dykes as well as many arrangements of old hymns from 1982 episcopal hymnal that I've developed. This is my first post here, I just joined. Best wishes to all of you.

Yeahhh, my LOVELY 808Artist (Maton) from last year and my faithful 9 year old EG330C Takamine. I own a couple of nylon string guitars,-my favorite one, however, yet to undergo repair. Right now the latest songs I've been playing are Luttrell and Tommy's version of Mona Lisa. I'm working my way through Pan Man (the duet he did with Slava Grigorian in 1995 album Classical Gas). They're one hectic batch of songs. These are the most recent of my instrumental repetoire of maybe 30 acceptable songs. I'm also trying to get an assortment of covers made as well as playing casual vocal songs with friends. So thilled to see a whole networking site devoted to Tommy fans lol, The official website has quite a good forum, and hopefully we can get a good community of the many many Tommy fans around the world.
